Prepaid cell phone minutes
One of the biggest advantages of pay as you go cell phones over traditional post-paid plans is that you can buy only as many minutes as you need, so you never have to worry about overage charges or not using all the minutes that your plan allows.
Adding minutes
Before you can use your prepaid phone, you must add minutes to it. The price per minute can vary depending on how many minutes you purchase at a time. For instance, T-Mobile charges $0.33 per minute if you purchase only 30 minutes, but $0.10 per minute if you purchase 1000 minutes at a time. This allows great flexibility for users to purchase as many minutes as they think they will use. The one downside to purchasing a large amount of minutes at once is that you usually have to use the minutes within a certain amount of time or they will expire.
Expiring minutes
When choosing a plan, be careful to check to see if the minutes you buy expire after a given amount of time. Most prepaid minute expire either 30, 60, or 90 days after you purchase them, but some prepaid wireless phone companies offer plans where the minutes never expire. If you aren't going to use a lot of minutes, it is often best to buy minutes in small increments so you don't risk losing any of them.
