AT&T No Longer Claims to Have the "Fewest Dropped Calls"
Aug 24, 2007 11:39 AM
Following numerous investigations, studies, and even lawsuits, AT&T has decided to stop using the slogan "Fewest Dropped Calls". AT&T started using the claim based on a report by Telephia, even though the report didn't explicitly state that they were the most reliable. The report even said that AT&T did not have the fewest dropped calls in many areas such as New York, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles.
Studies conducted by Consumer Reports and JD Power have also confirmed the findings that AT&T did not have the fewest dropped calls, and in fact both of them placed AT&T near the bottom of their rankings for reliability and satisfaction. It has been reported on the Howard Forums that retail stores have already removed all marketing material with the slogan on it.
AT&T has officially stated they aren't changing the slogan because it is wrong, but because of a bigger marketing shift. They are going to change to primarily using the message, "more bars in more places" instead. A spokesman for AT&T said, "for some time now we have been transitioning the overall messaging of our advertising to what we call 'more bars in more places' because that's the number one reason cited by folks when they think about a high quality network".
